  • Powerful processor
  • Fluid navigation
  • Quadruple photo sensor
  • Quick charge
  • USB-C charging port
  • Excellent autonomy

Weak points

  • No wireless charger

Design and screen

The design of the Redmi Note 8 displays the same elegant and fluid curves of the Redmi Note 7. The only notorious difference is in the rear photo module, always vertical and in the corner, but with a fourth sensor.

Its design is therefore very refined with a global ergonomic shape that makes its grip comfortable.

Thus, on the front face is the 6.3-inch FHD + screen with a drop-shaped notch that houses the selfie camera. Xiaomi remains on this specific design because beyond the aesthetics it provides, it improves the comfort of the user. Indeed, this water drop integration improves the screen/surface ratio of the housing. It thus covers 90% of the front panel, which makes it possible to take maximum advantage of its dimensions.

On the slices are the volume and standby buttons and the dual SIM card slot which can also accommodate a micro SD card. The periphery also houses the USB-C type charging port, microphone, speaker and jack.

On the back, we find the photo module located vertically in the top left corner. The fingerprint reader is also always present, arranged so that the index naturally falls on it when held.

Xiaomi offers us again with its new smartphone Redmi Note 8 a real visual show, with a case whose color seems ignite with its back glass gradient. Available in 3 colors, black, white and blue, its finishes are really neat and naturally give a premium side to the Redmi Note 8.

Performance, OS, and interface

What rumors about the processor of Redmi Note 8! Since Xiaomi’s announcement of a successor to the Redmi Note 7 with a rise of the processor, a lot of assumptions more or less founded invaded the canvas.

So, the big question revolved around the possibility of the brand’s choice of the Helio G90T processor, which made many gamers dream. Well, it’s not on Note 8 but on the Note 8 Pro that will be this processor optimized for the game. But do not be disappointed, Xiaomi promised us to rise to power and kept his word.

Performance, OS and interface

Indeed, the Redmi Note 8 is equipped with the powerful Snapdragon 665. The SoC has eight Kryo 260 cores, four of which are clocked at 2.2 GHz and the other at 1.8 GHz. It is available with a configuration of 4 GB of RAM with 64 GB of storage or 6 GB of RAM with a choice of 64 or 128 GB of storage. Of course, we can insert a micro SD card to store more photos, videos, and other documents. The Redmi Note 8 offers smooth and comfortable navigation. Gaming is therefore quite possible, although it is true that the Note 8 Pro will offer an even more mesmerizing experience.

True to its habit, Xiaomi unsurprisingly equips the Redmi Note 8 of Android 9 with an overlay MIUI. A little time of adaptation will probably be necessary for the followers of the drawers of application, but the handling is still quite fast because the navigation is very intuitive and the design quite simple. With this overlay, it is possible to display all applications on one screen, which greatly simplifies multitasking. You can also completely customize the interface, including changing the order of the navigation keys as desired, which makes the experience even more comfortable.

The responsiveness is almost immediate with a negligible latency, which is rare enough to be highlighted in this tariff category smartphone.

The camera and the audio

The biggest innovation of the Redmi Note 8 is undoubtedly the appearance of a 4th photo sensor on its rear module. The main unit is equipped with a 48 MP Samsung ISOCELL GM2 sensor. Then there is an ultra-wide-angle sensor of 8 MP, a ToF sensor (Time of Flight) and a macro sensor each of 2 MP.

The ISOCELL GM2 sensor is equipped with 0.8-micrometer pixels and features Tetracell technology for low-light environments. This technology merges four pixels into one to capture more brightness when needed. Thus, the photos are more detailed. Also, the ISOCELL GM2 sensor supports HDR in real-time and also incorporates a DCG (Dual Conversion Gain) to optimize the collected light.

The quality of the photos will therefore greatly increase, especially if we take into account the presence of the ToF sensor. As a reminder, the function of the TOF sensor is to produce light (possibly not or not very visible to the human eye) that bounces on a surface before returning to the sensor. The duration of this round trip allows the smartphone to calculate the distance between its ToF sensor and a specific point of space. Placed on the back of the smartphone, the ToF sensor then measures the depth to improve the photos in portrait mode.

Side selfie, the sensor is 13MP, and the photos are good qualities, even indoors.

Audio level, the speaker is quite satisfactory and can watch videos or listen to music without a saturation effect. As for the jack, it allows you to listen with a wired headphone or speakers a quality sound.

autonomy

As on all its recent smartphones, Xiamo endows the Redmi Note 8 with a powerful battery. This one, with 4000 mAh, makes it possible to reach a record autonomy of 2 to 3 days in standard use. That is by using social networks, sending e-mails, or surfing the web. It is certain that use in-game mode is much more energy consuming and will lower the battery charge more quickly.

However, the Snapdragon 665 processor is not extremely greedy, much less than average, which promises some nice hours of the video game before charging.

And for our comfort, the Redmi Note 8 is compatible with the 18 W fast charge, a trend that is revolutionizing the world of smartphones.
