WhatsApp will no longer work on certain smartphones from 2020
In 2020, as every year, WhatsApp will no longer be supported by some of the oldest devices and therefore unable to respond to the new features offered by the messaging app.
WhatsApp is without a doubt the most used instant messaging app in the world. To optimize the user experience, its development team is constantly implementing new features often “stolen” from its counterparts, starting with Instagram, both in terms of communicating with friends and family as when it comes to working. This is why it is important to know that from 2020, WhatsApp will no longer be supported by certain devices.
The company announced on its blog that it will no longer be possible to create a new account or identify with an existing account on the following platforms:
Android 2.3.7 Gingerbread and earlier versions (from February 1, 2020)
iOS 8 and earlier (as of February 1, 2020)
This means that in theory, it will still be possible to use the app (if you already have an account) but in limited mode since some features may stop working from one moment to the next. The discourse changes completely for devices operating on Windows Phone which will no longer be supported at all from January 1, 2020.

WhatsApp decides each year to no longer support certain platforms for two reasons: the limited number of users who use it, and the technical impossibility of implementing new features. In conclusion, if you have a device with Android 4.0.3 or later, iOS 9 or later or KaiOS 2.5.1 or later, be calm! Otherwise, you will need to consider purchasing a new smartphone.
