Until now I had only seen photos of the new one Nissan Frontier 2022 And although it got my attention, it wasn’t as much as it was until now, when I had the opportunity to see it in person.
This new and third generation of the completely redesigned Nissan Frontier features an impressive yet aggressive design. Of course, the level of equipment I’ve seen is one of the most striking in the line, the PRO-4X.
Unfortunately I couldn’t drive it because it was just an exhibition event, but I got to chat with Nissan specialists who answered all my questions and commented on some peculiarities of this new Frontier such as its style, inspired by the iconic Nissan Hardbody, a truck that won off-road racing in the 1980s and 1990s (see an infographic at the end of this article showing the evolution of Nissan midsize trucks over the years, starting with the Datsun 220 in 1959).
From the very beginning, when I walked into the room where there were 3 other Nissan vehicles, I was strongly impressed by the front of this truck, its massive grille.
Also its much larger hood than the previous model and what gives it a much more mature look. Its bumpers are also larger and more muscular, offering a long lasting feel.
This Frontier PRO-4X I’ve seen comes with all-wheel drive, includes LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, LED fog lights and lava red grille accents, things you also told me are included in the Frontier PRO-2X ( two wheel drive only).
Her hips have high shoulders, nothing special, but not at all out of tune with the aggressiveness of the forehead, on the contrary, it presents an adequate harmony.
The rear with a short bed is very well crafted thanks to the fenders, which by the way are also muscular and combine perfectly with the rear bumper, achieving a perfect and elegant finish for this fantastic 2022 Nissan Frontier.
This truck was built with the most durable chassis and chassis in its segment. As for the powertrain, it has been reconfigured, along with the steering and suspension, according to the demands of current customers for this midsize truck.
Its engine is a 3.8-liter direct-injection V6, offering 310 horsepower and 281 pound-feet of torque. This engine works in conjunction with a 9-speed automatic transmission designed to maximize efficiency and deliver strong acceleration. According to the guys at Nissan, this transmission offers much quicker shift response across the entire gear range.
This four-wheel drive model features an on-the-fly shifting system that includes 2WD / 4HI / 4LO modes which are operated via an electronically controlled half-time transfer case.
Unlike the other trim levels, the Frontier PRO-4X we’ve seen includes an electronic self-locking differential, Bilstein off-road shock absorbers, and underbody skid plates.
It has a large interior space and its seats are very comfortable, both for the driver and passenger, as well as for the second row of seats.
The interior is loaded with new technologies and security systems, including wireless charger for smartphones, NissanConnect system with WifI Hotspot, Eyes Free Sites, several USB ports, including a USB-C, front 12V sockets and on this PRO-4X two power sockets. 110V with a capacity of 400 watts, one for the second row of seats and the other in the bed. Its sound system is a Fender Premium that works with 10 speakers.
In terms of safety systems, it includes the Nissan Safety Shield 360, with automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind spot warning, rear cross traffic warning, lane departure warning, high beam assistance and exclusive rear automatic braking in its class.
In addition, unique in its class, it comes standard with the intelligent front collision warning system and tire pressure monitoring system. As additional features available, the Frontier offers Intelligent Cruise Control, Traffic Sign Recognition and Intelligent Driver Alert. The tailgate alarm is standard on all models.
The images I captured offer a clear insight into how attractive this new generation of this midsize truck is, and specifically this PRO-4X prepared for adventure on any terrain.
